Just 15 minutes outside the mesmerizing Ubud in Bali lays the most wonderful spa hotel called Como Shambhala Estate. Is has been on top of spa hotel ratings since founded, and it easy to understand why.
When you arrive at this hotel the chilled and luxurious atmosphere grasps you instantly. The design and style of the hotel is breathtaking and the staff knows just how to make you relaxed.
Even if the whole hotel area is breathtaking, some of the best sights are in at the rooms. You can choose from the one-bedroom Retreat Villas – each with a private treatment room, the private villas or the principal suites. All beautiful. Some of the rooms are more modern, and I preferred those. Especially the ones with a valley view. All rooms have private pools, most of them with infinity-edge and surrounded by jungle views on a beautiful deck.
Most of the rooms have large bathrooms with both indoor and outdoor showers and a bathtub. The staff provides all the equipment you need for your own private spa, including lovely bath salt and pumice stone.
Your room is looked after at least twice a day, making it ready for daytime and night, and the staff really does what it can to make you feel royal.
If you need more than just an amazing room, pool and view, the hotel offers an astounding spa, gym, yoga studio, library, shop and a tennis court.
Another great thing about this hotel are the restaurants. We loved the bar area both for snacks and dinner. The breakfast area surrounded by a small lake with hundreds of colorful and playful carps is transformed to a stylish restaurant with regular entertainment, but our favorite was still the Italian restaurant. It serves the best Pizza in Bali and wonderful pasta. But even better, a good selection of Italian wine at an ok price. Even if the high temperature in Bali goes best with a chilled beer or drinks, it was lovely to enjoy a tempered Barbera and Chianti.
Even if the Como Shambhala offers everything you need, the staff will make great suggestions for what to see and experience for a few adventures. A morning walk to the rice fields is a must, and so is the morning yoga classes. The monkey forest was exciting for both kids and grown ups, and some shopping at all the wonderful shops unavoidable. This hotel became one of my all time favorites, and I will definitely return one day… or two.
